“Gong cha” in Chinese means the act of offering tea to the Emperor. This tea consumed by Chinese Emperors is of the best quality collected throughout the kingdom. This is also the promise Cliff, the owner, delivers at his Gong cha Daily Tea Place in Stonebridge, Saskatoon - always bring the highest quality and freshest tea to his customer.
In China tea was originally consumed for its medicinal properties. Used as herbal medicine the Chinese added the leaves to their food to provide nutrients or as an antidote for poison. Also, in China tea is believed to aid digestion and expunge nicotine from the body.
Owner's Story
In 2016 a U of S student from Saskatoon set out to visit his sister in Melbourne, Australia. Along the way he decided to try every single bubble tea place he encountered (many, many, many of them) and when he met Gong cha he stopped short. He fell in love at first taste and his fate was sealed.
After returning to Saskatoon and graduating from the U of S, he seized on the chance to bring Gong cha back to his home in Canada. And as a Chinese native himself, he saw an opportunity to become an ambassador for spreading Chinese tea culture in Canada. And so it was that he created Gong Cha Daily Tea Place in Stonebridge – a fun, inviting, clean and comfortable place from which to begin his mission.
